Description:
In light of revived interest and much public debate on Hong Kong’s countryside, and the globalist architectural “gaze” towards the hinterland beyond the strictly “urban”, this issue of the HKIA journal will shift our focus to consider how architects, design professionals and relevant stakeholders define, imagine, design, traverse and inhabit our city’s countryside.
A group of architectural professionals will come together to discuss the role of architecture in this opportune shift, and the complex involvement of communities and heritages with natural landscape and ecology that may require a radically different mode of operation. We will explore possibilities and profundity of conservation and regeneration of countryside. We will also critically discuss the symbiotic relationship of the urban and rural with architecture as agent in rural community development, and examine architecture in natural landscape as well as design and infrastructure for countryside living.
